I have an older APC backup-ups XS 1500G connected to a Mac computer. There is no parachute software for the Mac. How do I change the battery date. I just replaced the battery and it shows 100% charged with only 11% load yet 0 runtime. Is this because the battery date was not set when I replaced the battery or is there something else I need to set?

Your options are to get a windows computer and run APC Power Chute Software or run Parallels / VM on the Mac and run a copy of Windows and PCPE / PCSS.
PCSS supports several flavours of Linux so that is an option to.
The following action items need to be performed once the battery installation date has been entered.
Self Test: Manually initiate this process and let pass and wait for the battery to return back to 100% (SOC) State of Charge.
Battery Calibration: Manually initiate this procedure with at least 30% or greater load. Allow this process to complete and RBC to recover back to 100% SOC.
This will allow the system to better reflect the battery health and operational runtime of the newly installed RBC.
Complete the process by marking the RBC with the installation date & battery calibration.

I have appended the supported operating systems for PCSS:

Debian is not supported but you can install one of the alternative Linux distributions.
