I bought a new APC UPS 1500VA/900W BX1500M. When it arrives, the batteries are in backwards to be disconnected for shipping. The instructions say to remove the batteries, rotate them, and plug them back in to connect the batteries.
The problem is that there is a connector inside of the UPS that the batteries have to plug into, but it is misaligned. The connector in the UPS is attached to a cord, but there's nothing to stop it from flopping around, as there is no mechanism that holds it in the right spot. With the connector misaligned, inserting the batteries in the proper (green) direction means that they can't go all the way in, as the hole where the UPS connector is supposed to go doesn't line up with the connector itself.
Is this fixable? Or does it mean that the UPS is defective and I need to return it?

I would highly suggest you return the unit to the place of purchase and obtain another one.
The secondary option which is the APC / SE recommend process is to contact APC Technical Support to initiate a RMA.
The APC contact information is on the paper handout / manual.
Have ready the serial number, purchase receipt, and brief description of the problem / error code / active fault.
Let me know what you decide to do and the final outcome.

Thank you. I suspected as much, but wanted to make sure that I wasn't just misunderstanding something.
