Battery charging when it should not be

This was originally posted on APC forums on 11/10/2011

Hello,

We use the APC SUA 750 in an ATM product. We monitor the state of the UPS and take the unit out of service if the battery is at less than 50 percent.

What we find is these units go below 50 percent for no reason at all, we take them out of service, the unit indicates the UPS is charging and comes back in service in a while.

The AC power was allways present and we cannot understand why this condition exists. Is there some other condition that can make the UPS think it is below 50 perent.

Hello,

We are using a Windows API to retrieve information from the UPS through HID interface.

The only reason this would happen would be due to a power outage or possibly a bad battery/battery charger. Unfortunately it's impossible to know for sure without troubleshooting further. I would recommend testing the UPS at a different location and observe and possibly install software. How are you monitoring the battery capacity with this unit?
