Back-UPS Pro 650 reporting the wrong model and shutting down
This is an old UPS that was donated to our church. Long story short.... I replaced the battery and was attempting to see if the battery constant needs to be updated. I fat-fingered the keyboard somehow and now, it is reporting as a "SMART-UPS V/S 420" and shutting down.
I just want to set it back to its old self, which was a "BACK-UPS PRO 650".
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Update: I think I made a lot more mess than I originally thought. I may have somehow modified the EEPROM settings (I'm guessing) and it's now stuck in an unstable state (again, guessing).
The good news is, I was able to bring it back to the correct model. In case you want to know, I stumbled upon ^B and +/- keys and pressing them repeatedly until I got it to show the "61.L.I" firmware. Now, pressing ^A shows it correctly as a Back-UPS Pro 650.
However, a problem still exists. It appears to me that it still won't accept utility input. I can cold-start it into battery backup mode but even with UPS plugged into an outlet, it will not switch to utility. When the UPS off, if I plug it into a wall outlet, I can hear a relay click inside. During this time, the serial comms port is active and the battery is charging. But after about 15 seconds, I hear the UPS relay click off and then the serial comms and battery charger stops working. I can only surmise that it is indeed receiving power (240V) but it is somehow "rejecting" it?

Hi @OrlyP
Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query. I am sorry to hear about the issues that you are having with the UPS. From what I can tell, you were able to configure the UPS by using the Link Language.
I have very minimal experience communicating with the UPS via Link Language but I was able to find an FAQ article that might be able to provide some help.
How to download and use the APC UPS-Link Protocol Language

Thank you, @JonPro. This is very helpful. I didn't know this document actually existed publicly.
I'll give it a look and revert back if I'm able to fix this problem I started. Although my Back-UPS Pro only supports a subset of Smart commands, I'm not out of the woods yet. I just hope that whatever I did is reversible.
