I have a 4-5 year old BR900 used in a home office for light loads. It has been silent (no noticeable fan noise as others have mentioned). Recently it started switching between Power/Backup with the lights switching between Green and Yellow (backup) then staying on Green. Then it stopped doing that for a while, then started going to Overload. Circuit breaker never popped.
If I unplug it and plug it back in it instantly flips to Overload once through the test cycle, even if nothing is plugged into it. It's running an iMac and wireless modem, occasionally an extra hard drive and a cordless phone.
I took out the battery (2x some smaller unit) and put each on a battery tender, which seemed to think that they were both OK. I reinstalled them and same thing happen.
So is the unit fried? I have had several different APC units and they all seem to fail hard around 4 years and battery replacements do not bring them back. I don't want to toss more money into batteries I cannot use if this is likely to be a dead unit.
Thanks for any advice.
