BR1500GI Surge-only ports rating

This question was originally posted by Kevin Mychal on APC forums on 2/26/2012

Why isn't there any "rating" (voltage and amperage) printed in the back of my BR1500GI (near the outlets)? I only see 230V 10A in the Input port of the UPS. With lower-end APC UPS (colored white) in our office, I see there are three ratings, one for the input port, one for the battery outlet ports, and one for the surge-only outlet ports. Now I'm wondering how much load is the limit of surge-only outlet ports and battery-backup outlet ports?

Please advise.

We don't have an rating for each individual outlet. We have a 10amp circuit breaker on the output and typically the power cords used are rated for 10amps as well.

Ok. So basically, I should never increase 10A combined current draw on ALL the loads that are connected to the UPS?

Because.. I linked you to the spec sheet that states surge protection of the outlets (in joules).. After re-reading your post, I think you are more interested in capacity in amps / watts. I could not find a way to completely delete my post.

A simple solution would be to look at the reset / circuit breaker for the line in. All the outlets combined capacity would be equil to the capacity of the line in circuit breaker.

You are correct, I am interested with the voltage and current capacity of the surge only outlet ports.

What do you mean? Where do I get that line in information?

But why do older APC UPS (white-colored units) have 2 general rating, 1 for the battery backup outlets and 1 for the surge-only protected outlets?

That 10amp circuit breaker you mentioned, is it for the battery backup outlets (collective), for the surge-only protected outlets (collective), or for all outlets combined? The input port has a 230V 10A input rating though.

the breaker is for all the outlets. It's not specific to any one outlet or group of outlets. I'm not sure why the ratings on the units themselves have changed. I haven't personally seen that on any of the older units I've looked ast.

By the way, here is one good example of the individual group ratings I am mentioning:

http://www.google.com/imgres?q=apc+ups+back+view&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:o...

You can see that there are different current ratings for the surge-only port and battery-backup outlet ports.
