APC 1200 Back-UPS "On Battery" comes on briefly every 30s, beeps

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/14/2013

This morning my APC 1200 Back-UPS spontaneously began turning on the "On Battery" light momentarily.  This is accompanied by a single alarm beep, humming, and what sounds like fan noise.  It stays on for about 2 seconds, then goes off for 15-60 seconds, then repeats.

I've checked the house circuit breaker and the UPS's own breaker button.  I've power-cycled it with the front panel button, and I've unplugged it from the wall.  No other lights are on, nor did anything unusual happen when the unit powered back up after being shut off.  I do not have PowerChute installed and the UPS is not connected by USB to the computer.  The Serial Number sticker says: BX1200  -  JB0520042844.

I searched the Forum, web and manual for ideas, but this seems to be a new problem!  Any help would be appreciated.

Brian

Hello,

To me, this could be an issue that has been discussed briefly on a few threads around here - just random on battery events that have no obvious reason to us since nothing else is turning off. My first thought is to try and lower the sensitivity to see if that helps. It could be electrical noise or something other than an obvious blackout power event. If no change there, try it on a different circuit at your location and see if any change in behavior too.

I believe your specific model is probably BX1200 or similar, is that right? If you have the user's manual handy, it should tell you how you can adjust the sensitivity setting (via the front panel button or even if its a BX1200LCD, via the LCD) or through PowerChute software if you were to eventually download it.
