I purchased a replacement RBC-43 for my SMT3000RM2UC. After unplugging the power connector and removing the 3 screws holding the RBC-43 in the unit, I pulled on the lip to remove the battery and it's stuck. Stuck to the point that it feels like there could be a 4th screw holding it in somewhere. Should it be that difficult to slide the battery out of the unit? Could the battery pack have swelled inside the case to the point where it's no longer removeable? Is there a way to troubleshoot that specific idea?

There are only three retaining screws that hold the RBC in place. In some instances turning the unit over (upside) down may help eject the RBC.
On some older RBC modules there is a very thin lip. If present it requires the user to push the RBC to the right while pulling the cartridge out.
Essentially you’re going to wiggle it back & forth while pulling out.
If you suspect the RBC is swollen you’ll need to remove the top cover. Once removed you’ll be able to confirm the blockage is a swollen cell(s).
Depending upon how deformed the RBC is. The only solution is to bend the opening of the frame a little to allow the RBC to clear the housing.
You can then bend the front frame / lip back down.

The wiggle led to the understanding that there are some notches on the bottom of the RBC that require the RBC to be lifted up slightly to remove from the UPS. Appreciate the help @Teken!!

Teken is spot on regarding the high probability of swollen battery cells causing the blockage.
Before you attempt to force the cartridge out or remove the top cover, please prioritize your physical safety. It is highly recommended to wear a face shield and heavy protective gloves when disassembling a UPS containing swollen batteries. These cells are under physical pressure, and exposing the internal compartment carries a risk of chemical leaks or sudden physical hazards.
If wiggling the cartridge does not release the friction hold, powering down the connected load, un-racking the UPS, and removing the top cover is typically the safest approach. This allows you to push the battery out from the rear rather than pulling it from the front.
Once the old battery is removed, it is crucial to evaluate a few items before installing the replacement RBC-43:
1. Inspect the Chassis and Components Swollen batteries exert tremendous physical pressure on the internals of a UPS. Carefully check the internal rails, the main control board, and all visible connections for physical deformation, stress cracks, or leaked battery acid. Running a new battery cartridge in a compromised chassis introduces significant operational risk.
2. Evaluate the Operating Environment Review the ambient temperature surrounding the UPS unit. Heat is the primary catalyst for VRLA battery swelling. As a general guideline, every 15-degree Fahrenheit increase above an ambient 77 degrees Fahrenheit reduces the expected life of a VRLA battery by approximately 50 percent. Ensure the rack has adequate ventilation and cooling to protect your new battery investment.
3. Verify the Age of the UPS Check the serial number on the unit to determine if the chassis itself is approaching the end of its reliable lifecycle. The first two numbers following the prefix letters represent the year of manufacture, and the subsequent two numbers indicate the week. For example, a serial number beginning with AS1623 was manufactured in the 23rd week of 2016.
If the UPS serial number indicates a year of 16 (2016) or older, it is time to seriously consider replacing the entire UPS rather than investing in a new battery. Aging internal components significantly increase the risk of unexpected power failures or load drops.
