Thank you for reaching out to the SE Community, my name is Jon and I will assist you with this query.  Apologies for the issue that you've experienced.

Will you be able to share the serial number of the UPS as well as the full UPS firmware like the UPS and CBL firmware versions?  I would have to check if there is a specific firmware that we need to upload first on the UPS prior to moving to the latest.

Early versions of the SMX units (serials prior to AS1037) would need to upgrade their CBL to version 2.x before upgrading it to the latest.  Also, when you were doing the firmware upgrade, was the UPS turned off?

I am also having this issue with many ID1031 units with the same Firmware version. An example is below.

This also happens when using the direct serial connection to update the UPS and using the FUW.

UPS is currently on and we have not had the chance to try while off as it requires scheduled downtime.

Ideally there would be a way to update these without turning them off, but i have not had any luck with it myself. 

If there is an older update that might work i would appreciate the assist on finding it.

You'll need to contact APC Technical Support to obtain the older FUW / ENC for 3.1 UPS Firmware. You can not upgrade directly to 15.XX firmware as you see.

If this hardware is for an Enterprise (Corporate) installation do not proceed until you receive formal written approval from Management. Given this hardware isn't in warranty you're simply playing with fire and risk bricking a perfectly working system.
