I just purchased a used AP7920B and I'm having trouble updating the firmware.
It has NMC2 so I download the NMC2 firmware from the product page but for both 7.2.4 & 7.1.4 I get the following errors from the upgrade too
[10/29/2025 11:56:13] Firmware distribution does not match target device platform; this could be due to a corrupt distribution.
[10/29/2025 11:56:15] Unable to update device 192.168.1.7 with Boot Monitor; stopping all further processing of this device!
The PDU is currently running v6.4.4, I can see references online to newer 6.x versions but haven't been able to find a download.
Does anyone know if it is safe to manually upgrade to the latest 7.x version? If not where can I get the latest version my PDU can support.

Generally speaking, this ridiculous nonsensical message indicates the following conditions:
User: The user is not an Administrator with privileges as such do not use a Device / Network / Read Only account when entering the credentials.
Protocol: Do not use SCP but FTP during the upgrade process and insure FTP is enabled in the NMC.
Logs: Do not save logs if present as this sometimes causes a delay in the upgrade process as such results in a failure.
If all the above has failed than the next option is to use the CLI and upload the individual files as outlined in the APC NMC FAQ.
NOTE: You’re best served by contacting APC Technical Support to obtain any interim 6.X.X NMC rPDU firmware before jumping to the 7.X.X branch to avoid bricking the rPDU.
Have them confirm the NMC hardware in place and relevant rPDU firmware.

Thank you, it was the FTP/SCP thing. I risked the direct upgrade and it worked
