LED on left side of UPS blinking

This was originally posted on APC forums on 8/31/2015

Hi,

I have just bought a used unit and was going to do manual new battery calibration. 30.5% load

Of corse i bought 2 new battery packs 😉

the unit is a SUA3000, everything was looking fine and i added equipment (lights fans,...) to reach the 30% load. I noted all the specs like temp 22C, runtime 47min,...

than i flicked the bracker in my electric panel and i hear the UPS went on battery with some kind of heavy humming noise for about 5 seconds and than all the LED to the left started blinking. I tried to restart the unit with the following outcome:

unit will turn on and on line LED will blick for few seconds

than it will go on battery with a havy humming noise for a second

than all the LED to the left will blink (5*load, 1*AVR trim, 1* On Line, 1*AVR Boost)

now it seams i even cant get back in to the networkcard to see the logs and so, no current on outlets. is it dead?

Best

Andy

Hi,

The description provided indicates a DC imbalance. You wrote that you had replaced the batteries. If you are using none APC batteries you should verify the batteries are wired correctly. Wiring incorrectly could cause a DC imbalance. If they are wired properly and the reset does not resolve the issue then the issue is most likely a component failure and the unit will need to be replaced.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the quick awnser:)

Ok i have tried both solution i can see in the FA, but still the same outcome 😞

  • I made sure no load
  • braker to off in my electic panel (unit is hardwired)
  • hold I button till long beep (2 sec) and release
  • it tries to do selftest or so
  • back on to the blinking LED

for the second test

  • no load
  • braker off
  • hold O button till click
  • braker ON
  • I button and unit turns on with selftest
  • back to blinking lights

Crap, is there anything else you can point me to?

I did see some post where they will conect via serial cable and thgis way the get access and do some changes to the battery constant.

Thanks so much

Andy

Hi,

Batteries been bought by local supplier sine I needed them quick so I can get the unit up and running.

The voltage of the bats are 27. On each pack. They are brand new and wiring should be ok.

Fuesed 100amp see picture below

So u say it needs to be replaced ?  Can it be repaierd?  What would be wrong with it?

whats the closest APC authorized repair shop for me?

I live in

Cookshire QC Canada

Hi,

Sorry but I am not aware of a company in Canada that does UPS repairs but maybe another forum member is.
